Prince Harry has swept the nation along with one beautiful young lady off her feet after he got down on one knee and proposed to the love of his life. The 33-year-old prince proposed to Meghan Markle, 36, while they were preparing roast chicken for dinner at Kensington Palace. They plan to marry in May 2018.
It is to be believed that on his wedding day, Prince Harry may possibly be offered the title of Duke of Sussex, making Meghan the Duchess of Sussex.
The engagement ring is extremely special as it comprises of diamonds that belong to Prince Harry's late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. In their first television interview together, the couple spoke about Diana and how happy she would have been. Prince Harry expressed, “I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, so excited for me, but then, she would have probably been best friends with Meghan. You know, it is days like today I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news. But, you know, with the ring and with everything else that's going on, I'm sure she's with us.
Born as Rachel Meghan Markle on 4th August 1981, she grew up in Los Angeles and is an actress by profession. Born to a white father and a black mother, Meghan was previously married to a New-York based film and TV producer, Trevor Engleson, 41. They were married for two years before parting ways in 2013. Her ex-husband is currently working on a show about a man whose wife runs off with a prince.
Meghan's father, Thomas Markle, 72, worked as a lighting director in Hollywood. Meghan is extremely close to her mother, Doria Ragland, 60, whose father was an antique dealer and mother was a nurse.
Following the engagement, Meghan's parents expressed in a statement issued by Kensington Palace, “We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry. Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.”
Although the royal wedding is an affair to look forward to, it seems rather unlikely that it will do wonders in boosting the British economy. Recent royal weddings, including Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding, had very little impact on the economy. On the other hand, Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding in 1981 had boosted the British travel industry, as well as the rest of Britain's economy. Further on, there seems to be no plans for a wedding bank holiday on this occasion.
