The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament, of the Republic of India. The institution was set up in 1949 under a special Act in 1949 even before the adoption of the Constitution of India in 1950. Since then, the Profession has grown leaps and bounds in terms of Membership and currently constitutes 5 regional offices, 163 branches, and 30 chapters abroad.
The ICAI is the second largest professional body of Chartered Accountants in the world and has an MOU with The Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales (ICAEW) and 11 other countries. The role of overseas chapters is to develop relationships with local public institutes and their members.
ICAI UK Chapter, the Indian Chartered Accountancy body in the UK, has over 1,000 members in the UK. The chapter organised its flagship conference on “Post Covid Growth Strategy for Financial Institutions & Industries” on 14th May, Saturday evening at Mont Calm London Hotel, Marble Arch
The panel discussion was conducted between Lord Rami Ranger, (Baron Ranger, CBE and the founder of Sun Mark), Sharad Chandak (CEO SBI UK), and Dr Anand Kumar (Board Member, Association of Foreign Banks).
Krishna Dahal Chairman and Vivek Saraogi Vice-chair addressed the welcome speech and introduced all the panel members and well-known dignitaries. Tabassum Nathani Treasurer and Meenal Sambre Newsletter lead greeted the dignitaries with bouquets, and Vineet Jain moderated the Panel.
The focused theme of the event coupled with an eminent panel attracted about a hundred attendees. Bankers and working professionals from organisations like HSBC, Citi Bank, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan, VFS, and IBM took part in the conference. Many attendees were practising chartered accountants in the UK. Students from institutions like London Business School came for the event. Some of the attendees travelled from abroad.
An impactful discussion focussing on how these leaders could successfully bounce back from the Covid scars took place. As the discussion proceeded, the panellists shared their vision of the future. In different words, however, all three panellists emphasised that organisation and professional resilience are the secrets.
Pertinent important topics: Interest Rate, Inflation and Climate substantiality were also discussed. Lord Rami Ranger highlighted events from his personal life and the importance of value in building a strong team, the importance of hiring loyal staff who stays with the company for a long and the desire to be somebody who focuses on your goal. Mr Sharad Chandak shared the operating model that opted to help their employees and customers during covid. Dr Anand Kumar shared how banks mitigated cyber security risks during a pandemic.
Dhiraj Khandelwal, Central Council Member, chair of MSME and Start Committee of the Institute spoke about how the UK can play a vital role in the start-up and MSME The event concluded with dinner, where the attendees further interacted among themselves and with the speakers.
