A Labour peer who supported the Brexit Remain campaign has apologised to Cabinet Minister Sajid Javid after sharing a "racist" cartoon which appears to mock the new British Home Secretary saying that he will deport his own parents to Pakistan.
Javid is the first Home Secretary of South Asian origin MP and to hold such a key portfolio. In the tweet, which has since been deleted, a figure purporting to be Javid is seen at his desk, with the caption: "I just want to settle in, get organised, then deport my parents!"
Javid responded directly to the former education minister, Lord Adonis, saying "you're better than this".
BBC reported Adonis then apologised to Javid for the "poor taste" cartoon. He wrote, "Sajid, on reflection I think the cartoon is too personal and in poor taste. I have deleted it. I am sorry.”
