Pearson PLC Group is a British multinational publishing and education company headquartered in London, England. It was founded as a construction business in the 1840s but switched to publishing in the 1920s. It is the largest education company and was once the largest book publisher in the world.

Pearson Test of English or PTE Home is a new, computer-based English test that supports individuals, families and communities wishing to live, work or stay in the UK on their journey from arrival to settlement. Results are typically available within 48 hours, reducing the stress that can be associated with a long wait for results.

PTE Home has been approved by the UK Home Office for applications to UK Visas and Immigration for family and settlement visas. PTE Home is comprised of a two-skills, computer-based English test, centered on speaking and listening, which can be undertaken in one single thirty-minute session.

Neha Garg narrates her experience with PTE to Asian Voice

Neha Garg originally came from a place called the land of five rivers in India which is in a State called Punjab. She was a hotel management graduate who was working in New Delhi when the opportunity came to move to the UK for work.

Q: Tell us a little about your background and journey to the UK.

I originally come from the land of five rivers in India which is in a state called Punjab. I am a hotel management graduate and have been working since the age of 19. I had been working in New Delhi for a few years when I got this opportunity to move to the UK for work.

Q: What do you like most about living in the UK?

Although moving out of India was truly an emotional decision it has also been one of the best decisions for me. Besides the concern of leaving family behind I wasn’t sure about what the UK had in store for me. I loved UK from the day I landed here and there are numerous things I like about living in UK. To name a few- the healthcare facilities, education for kids, culture, the natural beauty of the scenic villages and small towns, the well-organized public transport system and above all the rich history of this country- I mean everywhere you look around, you’ll be surrounded by thousands of years of history.

Q: How long have you been living here?

I have been living here for the past 4 years.

Q: What do you do for living?

I work in a consulting organisation.

Q: Why did you decide to apply for UK citizenship?

I think after staying here for over three years my husband and I were certain that this was the place we would like to finally settle down in and bring up our child. The next step to that was to make progress in that direction.

Q: How did you find the process?

The process is pretty simple and straight forward. You have all the information available on gov.uk website which is fairly easy to access and offers full transparency of the requirements.

Q: How did you hear about PTE Home?

I read about this on the gov.uk website. There were multiple tests listed on the website and I decided to research on what would work best for me.

Q: Why did you decide to take PTE Home instead of another English test?

There were a couple of reasons to select PTE Home instead of another English Test. The enrolment process was fairly simple. They have multiple test locations across UK and have available slots for taking tests with no wait times as compared to some other providers where the earliest slot available for me was after 21 days or even more.

  • The ease of taking the test: I just had to take the test on a computer with minimal human intervention.
  • Fast Results: The best part about the PTE Home was I got the result within 24 hours which I could submit to the Home Office for my Visa application.

Q: How did you find PTE Home?

I found about this on the gov.uk website and then just googled it.

Q: What do you think about the test being fully computer-based?

I found this to be very efficient and easy. Plus, it reduced human intervention in your exam which is especially good for people who are introvert in nature.

Q: How did you find the speaking part of the test?

The practice materials provided on the PTE Home page gave me a good understanding of what the speaking part of the test would necessitate. I prepared for it accordingly. The speaking part was fairly easy. You just need to speak clearly into the microphone in a clear voice and you will get there.

Q: How did you find the listening part of the test?

This was super interesting! It was almost like watching a movie where you hit the pause button and you are asked to repeat the dialogue you have just spoken. Very fascinating!

Q: Did you do any preparation for the test?

I went through the prep materials provided on the PTE Home website and that was enough for me to get going with the test. There are practice sample papers people can buy if they want to really prepare for the test.

Q: How were the staff/facilities at the test centre?

The staff at Pearson are extremely professional and they make you feel comfortable. Taking a test can be overwhelming for a few people so the staff make sure that you are comfortable before you take the test.

Q: How convenient was the test centre located?

The location of my test centre was very convenient. It was hardly 5 minutes by walk from the nearest tube station.

Q: How quickly did you get your results?

I got my results within 24 hours.

Q: What advice would you give other people applying for UK citizenship?

I would say for faster results they should explore the PTE tests as they are agile and offer excellent service.

Q: How would you recommend PTE Home to others?

Strongly recommended for anyone aspiring to go for an English test for UK citizenship.
