A recent report has warned that more than 1 million older people could have been duped by email scammers.

According to a survey by Aviva insurers almost three quarters of over 45s with internet access said they had been the targets of an email scam and out of these 6 per cent said they had fallen for the trap.

The Real Retirement report said that older users are most at risk with 8 per cent of the over 75s who were questioned saying they were victims.

The survey also found that more people had been contacted by scammers via email (73 per cent) than by phone (60 per cent).
