39-year-old Adil Sultan, an alleged Pakistani paedophile believed he was chatting to a 14-year-old schoolgirl on the internet whom he encouraged to send him her explicit photographs and meet up with him for sex. However, he was actually exchanging messages with the vigilante group, Guardians of the North, who posed as a 14-year-old girl. They handed him over to the police.

Newcastle Crown Court heard Adil Sultan pretended to be a 25-year-old on the internet and used a false name. It is said that Sultan believed “it was okay” to have sex with a girl off 14 in the UK. It is said that he now plans to apply for asylum in the UK as he claims that his conviction means he cannot return to Pakistan as there is widespread anger in his homeland regarding a recent child rape case, which means it is unsafe for him to go home now.

Sultan was sentenced to 17 months in prison with ten years sex offender registration and sexual harm prevention order.
