Yousaf Khan (46), director of Autumn Grange Care Home, in Nottingham, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter by gross negligence at Nottinghamshire Crown Court, for the death of 86-year-old dementia sufferer, Ivy Atkin, who passed away in November 2012.

Khan admitted that between September and November 2012, he breached health and safety regulations as a director. He also admitted that the care home had failed in ensuring Ivy Atkin was given the adequate care prior to her death.

Before the care home was closed in November 2012, Care Quality Commission inspection had found several “examples of neglectful care”. 28 residents had to be rehoused immediately.

At the care home, patients were found to be thirsty and unclean.

The care home manager, Mohammed Rahamatullah Khan (38), pleaded guilty for a health and safety offence.

The two have been provided bail by Justice Kathryn Thirlwall, and are due to appear in court on 5th February 2016, for sentencing.
