Newlywed couples could be branded as criminals or fined £1000, within days of their wedding, if they fail to follow a new system for registering their marriages, the Archbishop of Canterbury's marriage licensing office has reportedly said.
Under the system, which could be in force by the end of the year, couples will no longer be given a marriage certificate at the end of the service, but will be asked to sign a single 'marriage schedule' which they have to take to the local register office to record it, before they are given a certificate.
