Meditation: Finding inner peace and joy

Stress, anxiety, depression are at record high levels across society. So many of those things that are  designed to help us, we have somehow lost control of. Technology, automation, convenience. I see it in the young people of today, in my work colleagues, in elders - and in myself. Many of us long for some stillness, peace and inner calm. We all want to experience lasting satisfaction and perfection, but is it really possible?

Balancing family responsibilities, especially as an Indian woman, not only for the immediate but also the extended family and community, work, spiritual life – and all the rest, is challenging! The bedrock of my life is Self-Realization Fellowship. It is a ‘how to live’ spiritual path which unites East and West, and teaches scientific techniques of meditation, founded by Paramahansa Yogananda, my Guru. It focuses on the inner path, through meditation, and the outer path, via right behaviour and service. I love it because it’s practical, it’s based on science and because it unites East and West which reflects my own outlook as a British Indian who loves so many aspects of each culture. Topics are relevant to all and have included for example “are we letting life’s circumstances control us?” “how to balance spiritual and material life” “the law of success.”

People always ask me about meditation, how to do it, how they struggle – we all do! So I’m excited that we are welcoming monks from the Self Realization Fellowship Path to London on 2 June. They will give a free, public lecture entitled “Meditation: Finding Inner Peace and Joy”. Part of the evening will include a guided meditation for attendees to experience simple yet profound techniques for themselves.

Admission is free and all are welcome. The public lecture will be held in London at Friends House located at 173 -177 Euston Road, London, NW1 2BJ. For more information, please write to [email protected] or visit https://www.srf-london.org.uk/.
