Twenty-two people killed and over 60 injured in what is believed to be a suicide attack at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester yesterday. The attack that came less than three weeks before Britain's national election on June 8, took place at the country's largest indoor arena- Manchester Arena, at the end of the concert, when the audience, largely children, were streaming out.
Home Secretary Amber Rudd, who will attend a COBRA meeting, Britain's emergency committee, later today, condemned the attack calling it “barbaric”. “This was a barbaric attack, deliberately targeting some of the most vulnerable in our society- young people and children out at a pop concert.” The police believe the attack was conducted by just one man, who was carrying an “improvised explosive device, which he detonated.” More than 400 police personnel are currently deployed at the site. “Families and many young people were out to enjoy a concert at the Manchester Arena and have lost their lives,” Manchester Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said, adding that significant resources were deployed for a “fast moving investigation.”
23 year old American sensation, Grande tweeted, “Broken. From the bottom of my heart, I am so so sorry. I don't have the words.” Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham called it a “terrible night for our great city.”
