A drunken assailant punched his cousin's husband unconscious in the street, causing a broken ankle, a court heard.

Rickvinder Singh Johal then ran off, leaving the victim injured on the ground, despite his distressed cousin asking him to help.

Leicester Crown Court was told Johal had a "bad" criminal record which included a similar offence of punching someone and rendering them unconscious, committed in "almost identical circumstances".

The court heard the cousin and her husband had been enjoying an evening out in the city centre when they spotted Johal running along Bowling Green Street, with a group of men, at 2.30am on September 11.
