Naa'imur Zarariyah Rahman, 20, from Finchley, north London has appeared in court after being accused plotting to bomb Downing Street and assassinating Prime Minister, Theresa May.
Accused of being an alleged Islamist terrorist, Rahman is accused of planning to explode a homemade bomb before attempting to storm into 10 Downing Street with a knife, wearing a suicide vest in attempt to kill Theresa May.
Rahman appeared at Westminster magistrate's court on 6th December, along with 21-year-old Mohammed Imran, from Sparkbrook, Birmingham. The duo were arrested on 28th November. Rahman has been charged with preparing acts of terrorism, while Imran, who was accused of trying to join Islamic State, has been charged with preparation for acts of terrorism in relation to his alleged intent to “make hijrah” (holy migration), to join the terrorist group in Libya.
In court, the prosecutor Mark Carroll said, “It is said Rahman planned to detonate an improvised explosive device within a bag at the gates of Downing Street and then seek to gain access to No 10 in the ensuing chaos with a view to trying to kill the Prime Minister. The secondary attack on No 10 was to be carried out with a suicide vest, pepper spray and a knife. His purpose was to attack, kill and cause explosions. The second and linked allegation involves Imran trying to obtain a fake passport in order to leave the United Kingdom with a view to travelling to Libya for hijra.”
The two accused are to remain in custody and are due to appear at the Old Bailey on 20th December.
