Man arrested after Reading shop raided by immigration officers

A business in Reading faces a big fine after immigration officers found a man working there whose student visa had expired.

A Home Office team swooped on JR Convenience Store in Tilehurst Road, at 3.40pm on Monday, January 23. They arrested a 30-year-old Pakistani man at the store.

The business has been served a warning it could face a fine of up to £20,000 unless it can demonstrate the appropriate right to work checks were made when employing the man.

The owner will have to prove they have seen a passport or Home Office document confirming permission to work in the UK.
