A family of 12 from Luton, reported as missing from their trip to Bangladesh are alleged to have travelled to Syria. It is said that the family supposedly contacted their UK relatives, informing them that they were in Syria.

The family were to travel to Bangladesh but were detained overnight at Heathrow Airport, on 9th April 2015, as security staff had apparently become suspicious of their motives for leaving the UK. They were allowed to board a flight the next day.

During their detainment, the police had raided their property in search of any evidence, however, no suspicious items were found; hence, they were given the permission to travel.

The family had boarded a flight to Bangladesh via Istanbul, Turkey, on 10th April. They flew back to Istanbul on 11th May and were due to fly back to the UK on 14th May. Their relatives reported the family missing on 17th May.

Bedfordshire Police have stated, “While the suggestion is that the party's current location is in Syria, this remains uncorroborated and our enquiries are continuing.”
