The Asian community in the UK welcomed 2019 by celebrating the New Year's Honours list where approximately 60 Asians were recognized for their outstanding achievements out of a total of roughly 1200 candidates. 12% of the total candidates are from the BAME (Black Asian Minority and Ethnic) background which rose from the 10% representation in the most recent Queen's Birthday Honour's list.

All candidates were selected for the different categories of BEM, MBE and OBE where 70% of the recipients awarded are the people who have provided voluntary or paid services to enrich the communities. Out of the 20 Knights and 9 Dames, Jayne-Anne Gadhia CBE is the only woman with an Asian representation that received this honour. The chief executive officer of Virgin Money, Jayne-Anne comes from humble origins of a working-class family and later got married to an accountant, Ashok Gadhia, who gave up his career to look after their daughter.
