Police warns that social media is inciting severe sexual offending among juveniles, as children as young as 12 are being prosecuted for rape in London.

New figures from the Metropolitan Police reveal that 13 children between aged between 10 and 12 were among 196 juveniles from London who were charged with rape between early 2015 and the end of 2017. Those taken to court include 25 children aged 13, as well as 33 suspects who were 14 at the time of the alleged offence.

The crimes include some in which girls have been blackmailed into sex over photographs taken on mobile phones in “revenge porn type” offences. Detectives say that girls are also being provided as “rewards” for boys who are carrying out “county lines” drug-running, as well as other crimes. Some of the victims are said to have been subjected to multiple attacks.
