The Metropolitan Police are advising people on how to keep their homes safe during the festive month as traditionally, December sees a hike in burglary across London. Last year on Christmas Eve, there were 189 burglaries in London.

The Metropolitan Police has advised people to keep valuables and gifts out of sight from windows, and consider using a timer to switch the lights or your TV on at home, so that it appears like your home is occupied. They have also advised not to post that you are away from home or do a countdown to a winter holiday on social media. Boxes and rubbish should be disposed of discreetly after Christmas so that you do not reveal that you have valuable items at home. You should also ask for identification and not opening the door until you at happy with who the person say they are.
