Latest data released by a leading educational agency notes that London universities have recorded a nearly 35% increase in the traction of Indian students in 2019-19. Data analysed by UK’s Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), further highlights that Indian students now comprise the third largest group of London’s overseas students’ market, after China and the US.

According to HESA, Indian student numbers in London grew by 34.7 per cent in 2018-19, the largest upswing since 2011-12.

It believes that the applications from the sub-continent may have surged following UK government’s re-introduction of the two-year post study work visa which comes into affect from this year. This allows overseas graduates a longer period of time to look for employment opportunities after the completion of their degrees.

Notably, India overtook Italy, which slipped one place down to fourth, followed by France. While Italy, sent 5,625 students, down by 1.2 per cent, France displayed a 3.9 per cent growth with 4,650 students.
