Landlord faces charges for renting policies marking South Asians

Fergus Wilson, a landlord who tried to ban Indian and Pakistanis from renting his properties because their cooking generated curry smells, faces legal action over his tenancy policies.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission has applied for an injunction at the Central London county court, when the Press Association found that he has been forbidding single parents, battered wives and those with children under 18 from renting out his properties. Fergus, who owns hundreds of properties in Kent, said he did not want Indian and Pakistani tenants as he could not sell properties that smelled of curry.

He reiterated that he did not discriminate against people based on race, colour or nationality; but his reason for forbidding the other tenants were merely economic steps to ensure he does not end up with tenants who will be unable to pay rent.
