Help2Let: Harrow Council is offering security and certainty to landlords

Hundreds of landlords across London and beyond are already working with Help2Let, the lettings agency run by Harrow Council. Help2Let offers the same service you’d expect from any agency, but they do things a little differently – that includes not charging any fees.

Talking about a new campaign, recently launched in Asian Voice and Gujarat Samachar, the council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for Housing, Cllr Mina Parmar, explains, “Because Help2Let is run by a council, we’re not looking to make a profit from the landlords we work with - we just want to be able to house the people that come to us for help. We don’t have enough council homes to meet this demand, so we work with private landlords to fill the gap.”

Cllr Parmar hopes to make more landlords aware of what’s on offer, “We know there are many challenges out there for landlords at the moment – increased costs and falling incomes, more and more regulations and changes to the law on evictions coming soon. We can help. We offer security and certainty. That includes giving our landlords three months’ rent upfront and we actually underwrite the rent payments, which means a guaranteed income even when between tenants.”

“At a time when the lettings market has never been more uncertain, we think that all adds up to a pretty attractive package.” She added.

Full property management service to landlords

Cllr Mina Parmar says, “Landlords working with Help2Let get a full property management service, including regular inspections.  In our Tenant Finding Scheme, Landlords get final approval on prospective tenants and for added peace of mind, we also cover them for any damage caused by tenants or their visitors, excluding wear and tear.”

“We also help landlords whose property needs work to get it market-ready – that can include things like a boiler replacement. Work with Help2Let to bring your property up to standard and you could access a grant of up to £15,000.”  Says Cllr Parmar.
