Harrow’s entry at London’s New Year’s Day Parade hit an all-time high on Monday, with their Moulin Rouge-inspired float winning second place and a whopping £9000 for the Mayor’s charities.
The Parisian cabaret was a spectacular performance full of dance, music and laughter that had everyone up on their feet - bringing in the New Year in high spirits. The parade was a tough competition against 17 other boroughs – but once again Harrow’s float stole the show! After months of preparation by volunteers from Wiseworks and Nower Hill High School, all the hard work paid off. The thousands of pounds will now be handed to the Mayor’s charities – Harrow Women Centre and Harrow Law Centre.
Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Margaret Davine said: “Winning second place is a fantastic achievement but what’s even better is that the money will really help change lives. It’s all thanks to our volunteers and the fantastic team who organised this year’s entry – thank you all. Harrow put on a show that everyone will remember for decades to come, the crowds were going crazy – young and old, we all absolutely loved it! It was a spectacular float – that literally blew us all away – I mean that 9 metres high windmill was really impressive. Well done everyone - Harrow has made me proud.”
Also taking part in the parade was the talented Beverley School of Dance, the Kodak Football Club, and Cllrs John Hinkley and Jean Lammiman who have worked so hard in preparing and organising this year’s entry.
Every year competition between the float gets tougher. As always, Harrow’s entry promises to be bigger and better, so roll on 2019 – we’re not stopping until we make it to the top!
