On Thursday 12th March, the Conservative Friends of India appointed two new Co-Chairmans councillor Ameet Jogia and Councillor Reena Ranger as their new leaders.

Their appointment follows the announcement by Lord Rami Ranger to step down from his position having served the organisation for the last two years alongside Lord Zac Goldsmith. CFI had played an instrumental role in the 2019 General Elections with regards to canvassing for Boris Johnson among the Asian Community. Lord Rami Ranger in a statement noted,

“It has been a privilege for me to have served the CF India over the last two years as its Co-Chairman along with Lord Zac Goldsmith. The organisation made a considerable contribution to the general election, and the results are in front of us. It shows what we can achieve as a united group. The Party has appointed Cllr Ameet Jogia and Cllr Reena Ranger OBE as the new Co-Chairs. Zac and I will become Patrons of the organisation and continue to support and contribute to the organisation as Peers.”

Now, the two councillors have decided to foster and strengthen the participation of the Indian community within the Tory Party.

Cllr Ameet Jogia has been involved with the Tory Party over the last two decades, and has served as an elected local councillor in Harrow in 2014. He was re-elected for the position in 2018 and then stood as a Parliamentary candidate. Ameet has served in the Shadow Cabinet in Harrow Council, becoming the Cabinet Member for Culture and Community.

He also works at Westminster as a political aide to Lord Dolar Popat supporting him in his role as the former Minister of the Crown for Business and Transport in the Lords, as well as his current role as the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Rwanda and Uganda.

Similar to Ameet’s journey Cllr Reena Ranger was elected a District Councillor for Moor Park & Eastbury in 2014 and was re-elected in 2018. She stood as a Parliamentary Candidate in 2017 and is the Chairman and Co-Founder of Women Empowered, a social initiative that aims to inspire and help women to make the best of their individual talents and skills.

Both members of the Conservative Party have rendered their services in increasing integration and strengthening diverse participation of the BAME community in the Tory Party.
