100 heroic bystanders lift bus off unicyclist

A horrific accident took place in Walthamstow, on Thursday 28th May 2015. The accident occurred just before 6pm, involvinga number 212 double-decker bus and a unicyclist, which made the cyclist trapped between the wheels of the bus.

Hearing and seeing the accident take place, up to 100 bystanders heroically attempted to lift the 12-tonne bus, in order to save the life of the 55-year-old unicyclist. The cyclist was severally injured and was rushed to the hospital.

A cafe owner at Walthamstow, Sam Ullah, gave an account to what took place at the scene. “There were so many people gathered there. There must have been about 50 to 100. They somehow managed to pull the bus away a bit. We were amazed- it was a heavy bus, a double-decker. Police were here straightaway and they took over."

Another bystander, Kyra Sam expressed, “I'm really amazed at the strength of Walthamstow- no one hesitated to push the bus off. I was in shock. Everyone really came together to help. It was really nice to see that in the face of something so awful.”

The police have not made any arrests.
