King Charles III hosted his first South Asian diaspora meeting as the monarch in Scotland at an event for British Asian Trust to celebrate his long association with charity initiatives geared towards the region. The event took place at Holyroodhouse Palace in Edinburgh last week. Queen Consort Camilla was also present at the event among 300 members of the South Asian diaspora, including Indian High Commissioner to the UK Vikram Doraiswami who had his first audience with the King since taking charge in London recently. Reportedly, the royals also spoke to community representatives from the city of Leicester, which faced communal violence post the India-Pakistan match in September.

Guests at the reception included prominent members of the British Indian community, including British Asian Trust chair Lord Jitesh Gadhia.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “The King has been involved with British Asian communities for many years through his work with British Asian Trust, which he founded in 2007 with a group of British Asian business leaders.

“Their Majesties welcomed guests of South Asian heritage from across the UK to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh to recognise the contribution that these communities have made to the National Health Service, Arts, Media, Education, Business and the Armed Forces.”
