Job centre staff to advice at food banks

Britain: The work and pension secretary, Iain Duncan Smith, has often been quite critical of food banks. On Wednesday 28th October, he said that Jobcentre Plus staff will be sent to food banks to give advice to the users on how to find a job, as well as chase up late benefit payments.

Iain Duncan Smith expressed that he was receiving “very strong feedback” after a trial at a Manchester food bank. He intends to extend this scheme across Britain.

However, charities that have set up these food banks which help over a million people, say that the scheme is being enforced without correct consultation and deliberation.
