As we have entered into a new year, one would certainly be optimistic about the prospect of a budding, if not prospering economy, as well as an array of opportunities. According to a survey consisting of 28 nations, emerging economic nations, such as India, believe that “the global economy will be stronger in 2018 than it was in 2017”. India has appeared to be the nation who is most optimistic about the countries economic holding in 2018. Comparatively, many first world countries, including Britain ranked quite low in the optimistic factor for their economy in 2018.
However, Britain has emerged as the most fearful that a major terror attack will take place in 2018. The survey revealed that 65% of Britons feared a nuclear war between the USA and North Korea, as well as terror attacks on home soil. However, in the research by Ipsos MORI, 2/3 of Britons expressed that they were optimistic that this new year will be a much better year for them compared to 2017.
The head of political research at Ipsos MORI, Gideon Skinner said, “The British public is looking forward to 2018 with a mixture of hopes and fears. Most of us think that 2018 will be a better year than 2017, but otherwise we have worries both at home and abroad. Britons are the most likely to expect a major terrorist attack in 2018, while two in five think a war between the US and North Korea is likely. Britons also expect global temperatures to keep on increasing, and, like several other European countries, are relatively less optimistic about the global economy than people in emerging economies.”
According to 43% of the British participants, an impeachment battle for US President Donald Trump seemed likely. 37% of Britons considered it to be unlikely, while 1/5 admitted ignorance.
Meanwhile in the USA, only half of their participants feared a terror attack in the United States, where as, it was 16% amongst the South Korean participants.
On the other hand, amid concurrent fears in India of terror attacks and other mishaps occurring around the country, the Indian participants appeared quite low in the survey and seemed less fearful of the prospect of an atrocious terror attack place. Rather, they are more upbeat about their country's economical position in the world, believing that they can walk shoulder-to-shoulder with other economic leaders, if not surpass them.
