The Sub-postmasters who were wrongly convicted of criminal offences in the Post Office IT scandal will each receive interim compensation of up to £100,000 funded by the government, The Times has reported.
This comes as an interim relief against the unfortunate miscarriage of justice where sub-postmasters were wrongly convicted of fraud by the Post Office, which in fact was the result of a technical glitch by Horizon IT.
The report also mentioned that The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy has taken this step in order to make sure that sub-postmasters are “not left out of pocket” as they and the Post Office worked towards full settlements.
700 sub-postmaster continue to fight this battle, many of which were forced into bankruptcy, their children couldn’t attend or afford higher education, and some were wrongfully imprisoned for a crime they did not commit.
