Srichand Parmanand Hinduja, the patriarch of the Hinduja group and the eldest of the four Hinduja brothers, passed away at the age of 87 on 17th May, in London. The news of his death was confirmed by the family. Fondly called Sri or SP, Hinduja led his family dynasty, employing 150,000 people, right until the end along with his brother Gopi.

The head of Britain’s richest family was suffering from Dementia. A spokesperson for the family, in a statement, said: “Gopichand, Prakash, Ashok and the whole Hinduja family with a heavy heart regret to announce the passing away of Mr SP Hinduja today.”  The statement described him as a “visionary and mentor to the family bestowing the founding principles and values of our late father, PD Hinduja.”

"It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father," Hinduja's daughters Shanu and Vinoo said in another statement. "Amongst other things, SP will be remembered for his great contributions in bringing India and its culture to the global stage through his work and philanthropic efforts," they said.

The Hinduja family topped the Sunday Times Rich List 2022, their collective fortune rising by more than £11 billion to reach £28.4 billion. This was the largest fortune recorded in the list in three decades.
