Artistic Director Rakesh Joshi is hosting Guru Vandana on 2 July 2023, which will be presented by Raga Jyoti at Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank Centre London.
Guru Vandana is a unique musical offering to the spiritual gurus of India in the form of devotional songs, music, hymns, poetry and dance. On the eve of Guru Poornima, a celebration of spiritual and academic gurus, we mark 150 years since the birth of Mahayogi-Maharshi Sri Aurobindo. The event will also be celebrating Shri Rang Avdhoot Maharaj’s 125th Birth Anniversary, who wrote Dattbavani & Shri Guruleelamrut.
The concert will include a divine raga-based ensemble of traditional Indian and Western instruments such as Sitar, Veena, Santoor, Mohan Veena, Bansuri, Tabla, Mridangam, Pakhawaj, Tanpura, Harmonium, Violin, Viola, Cello, Harp and Piano. There shall be Indian choral compositions from ancient sculpture including Vedic hymns, and revere melodies accompanied by renowned musicians.
It will include songs of Divine Light (Bhakti Sangeet) by Rakesh Joshi, a lifelong devotee of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo accompanied by talented choir singers of Bharatiya Vrund Gaan and renowned musicians. There will be an Indian dance based on the theme of the epic mystic poem ‘SAVITRI’ written by Sri Aurobindo. The dance is choreographed by Usha Raghavan.
With The Mother's blessings, this musical tribute will take place on Sunday, 2nd July on the eve of Guru Poornima: An evening to engage and immerse in soulful music. The evening is supported by Sri Aurobindo Trust, London and local devotees of Shri Rang Avdhoot Parivar, London.
