The guru holds an especially celebrated and revered role in Hinduism as not only a guide but a powerful spiritual medium between humans and God.

Devotees celebrate the Hindu festival of Guru Purnima to pay tribute to their guru and to thank him for all his indispensable contributions in their lives.

The festival of Guru Purnima was devoutly celebrated on Sunday 9 July 2017 at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, London.

The special evening assembly began with devotional prayers sung by sadhus extolling the greatness of a guru.

Sadhus addressed the congregation and spoke about the importance of and need for a guru in one’s life. They also explored the special relationship between a guru and an aspirant and elaborated upon the guidance that a guru offers for one’s spiritual advancement.

A short video was presented thereafter in which His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj shared his personal memories of his gurus. Sadhus concluded the evening by offering flower petals to the murtis of Mahant Swami Maharaj and Pramukh Swami Maharaj in devotional homage.
