Gang jailed for attack on court witness' home

A gang were prosecuted at Woolwich Crown Court on 31st July 2015, and jailed for intimidating a court witness with a grenade, as well as firing bullets near Ongar.

Bullets from a handgun were fired through the front door of the victim's home on 30th April 2014, while a hand grenade exploded near the front of the house three days later. The blast smashed windows and damaged a parked car, and luckily no one was injured in the attack.

Jahzeiah Francois (24), was jailed for 14 years for conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

Kirtharan Thuraisingam (33), was jailed for 13 years for conspiring to pervert the course of justice, plus five years for the possession of explosives.

Nigo Habib (37), was jailed for 9 years for conspiring to pervert the course of justice, while Walid Habib (37), was jailed for 18 years for the intimidation of a witness. Walid Habib must also serve half of the original 15-year sentence for the conspiracy which involves stolen vehicles, firearms and drugs.

Anna Ibrahim (32) was also jailed for 10 years for conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

Detective Inspector Andy Waldie said, “Walid Habib was the mastermind behind a gang operation from an industrial unit near Ongar that supplied Class A drugs, firearms and stripped or changed the identity of cars stolen in the area. These were serious and violent criminals with access to an arsenal of weapons, mainly from easter Europe. The operation was smashed after only a few months after stolen vehicle equipped with a tracker led Essex Police to the unit.”
