Four New Trustees join Gandhi Statue Memorial Trust

The Gandhi Statue Memorial Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of four new Trustees: Akshata Narayan Murty, Carsten Jorgensen, Lord Peter Goldsmith and Vivek Chadha. 

Speaking on their appointment, Lord Meghnad Desai, Chair of the Trust emphasised that the diverse backgrounds of the four Trustees, but their joint belief in the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi, would ensure that the Trust would continue to spread his message all over the world. 

After the Gandhi Statue is unveiled at Parliament Square, the Trustees will prepare a road map for other philanthropic activities. 

Lord Desai said: "As well as the wisdom of the older members of the Trust, we also need the wisdom and energy of youth. It important for us to reach out to young people and that is what we hope Akshata Murty and Vivek Chadha  will help us do."

Akshata Narayan Murty, who runs an investment business focused on investing in small and medium sized British companies, said:

"Mahatma Gandhi forged a new path for India, in a manner that defied the norm.  His view that 'In a gentle way, you can shake the world' has been adopted world over and his lessons are as relevant today as they were more than seventy years ago." 

Carsten Jorgensen, the Chief Investment Officer of the Mittal Family Office, reiterated his excitement of being involved in the work of the Trust and contributing to the commemoration of the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi.

Lord Peter Goldsmith, the former UK Attorney General said  "Gandhi is one of the towering figures of recent history.  It is right to  commemorate his life and his wisdom in the heart of London at the birthplace of Britain's modern democracy.  I am privileged to be associated with this project."

Vivek Chadha , a young NRI hotelier and long time admirer of Mahatma Gandhi also expressed his desire to help spread the message of the Mahatma.    

The other Trustees are Gopalakrishna Gandhi, Lady Kishwar Desai and Dr Rami Ranger.
