Rishi Sunak is one of the rare members of the government who is a teetotaller.
The chancellor abstained from an age-old tradition of having an alcoholic beverage in the chamber while presenting the budget. He has reportedly come closest to having a drinking issue due to his love for Coke.
However, he made heads turn when he recently spent about £163 on a case of English sparkling wine.
According to a Sunday Times report sourced from official documents, “the chancellor bought six bottles of bubbly back from his department in March, after the Treasury retained it as an official gift.”
The gift is said to be for his wife Akshata Murthy who occasionally enjoys wine.
