Snow has made its way to the UK, with the largest snowfall in London in nearly 7 years. As beautiful as it may seem to watch the snow from your windows or play outside and make snowmen, however, for those who forget to scrape off snow and ice from their vehicle can expect a hefty fine.

Drivers who fail to clear snow from their vehicles could be fined £60 and get 3 points on their licence. According to AA, those who fail to comply can receive a £100 on-the-spot fine as well as nine points on their licence if their carelessness causes an accident.

The rule also requires drivers to scrape off any snow that could fall off their cars and go on the path of other road users.

The Highway Code states that lights, windows and number plates must be clear of snow and for those caught driving without clearing their car appropriately are breaking Rule 229.

Luke Bosdet, AA spokesman said, “When you are driving around with 12 inches of snow on your roof, there is the possibility it will fly off at some stage. You a driving around with a car that is going to pose a danger to other road users – if snow blows off the roof it can blind another driver, it can get serious for you if it causes an accident.”
