Experience a journey on a 1938 Art Deco tube train

Thursday 31st August 2023 05:01 EDT

This September, you have the opportunity to fulfil your dream of journeying back in time to historic London, embarking on a weekend of nostalgic rides aboard a 1938 tube train that will transport you to the bygone era.

This vintage train, boasting an exquisite art deco design, comprises four carriages adorned with elegant wooden-framed windows, stylish light fixtures, and luxurious red and green cut and loop wool moquette seating. On both Saturday, September 9, and Sunday, September 10, 2023, the train will cover various routes between Amersham and Watford, as well as Amersham and Harrow-on-the-Hill.

A total of 1,100 of these 1938 vehicles were manufactured, and a portion of them remained operational in London until 1988. A small number of these trains found a new purpose on the Isle of Wight's Island Line, although in 2020, they were substituted with 'modern' (dating back to the 1980s) London Underground trains.

While these classic cars can now be observed within museums and depots, opportunities to actually travel aboard these beauties have become exceedingly scarce in present times.

Tickets for the heritage rides scheduled for September are currently available for purchase. Adult return tickets are priced at £28.50, while concessions can enjoy a rate of £20, and children's tickets are priced at £15. There's also the option to book a single ticket, which comes at a more affordable cost.
