Environment Secretary says it's fine to eat food after best before date

The Environment Secretary, Liz Truss has suggested that it is acceptable to consume food after its “best before” date.

Liz Truss has stated that everyone is responsible of the reduction of household waste.

The Environment Secretary also wants to see less offers of “buy one get one free”, in order to help reduce the amount of food that gets waste or goes uneaten.

On asked whether she would eat food which has surpassed the best before date, she said, “Definitely. I will just see if it smells okay and eat it.”
