Eid Mubarrak to Muslims across the world

Communities Secretary Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP Thursday 30th July 2020 14:12 EDT

As Muslims in Britain and around the world mark the end of the annual Hajj, I want to wish everyone celebrating a very happy Eid Al Adha.

Eid is a day of celebration and connection for many Muslims, where loved ones come together to pray and share a meal together all over the world.

It is about sacrifice and commemorating the Islamic values of peace, generosity and service.

I know all of you have had to make sacrifices this year, especially during Ramadan.

And this Eid too will be different, with smaller gatherings and not being able to hug and greet each other in the usual way.

We have seen phenomenal bravery, compassion and selflessness in recent months.

And I want to thank all our essential workers who have been helping and will be making sacrifices this Eid, including the many Muslims in our NHS, councils and all other key sectors who have kept us safe and the country moving during this very difficult time.

It is thanks to your heroic efforts on the frontline that we are able to save lives.

I also want to thank all of the brilliant Muslims groups who have stepped up through the many acts of kindness towards the vulnerable and elderly in our communities.

The generosity displayed is a true testament to the strength of our social fabric today in Britain.

And it has been incredibly inspiring to witness.

It is important that we continue to unite by staying alert, celebrating safely and social distancing

And in the spirit of Eid, I would like to encourage readers of Asian Voice to pick up the phone and ensure that no one feels alone.

I wish all Muslims in this country and around the world a very happy, peaceful and safe Eid.

Eid Mubarak.
