Ten portions of fruit and vegetables a day may give us longer lives, say scientists.
Such eating habits could prevent 7.8 million premature deaths each year, according to a study by Imperial College London.
Experts said though five-a-day helps cut risk, twice that amount could significantly reduce heart disease and cancer.
Apples, pears, citrus fruits, salads and cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower help protect against heart disease, stroke and cardiovascular disease. Cancer risk could be cut by eating spinach, green beans, peppers, carrots and cruciferous vegetables.
The analysis showed even small amounts had a health boon, but more is even better.
