Dog owners earn more than cat lovers, says study

Dog owners are happier, more sociable and earn bigger salaries than cat owners, according to a new research.

Researchers who carried out a detailed study of 1,500 pet owners, for VetPlus, suggest that those who choose a feline friend rather than a canine companion are more likely to enjoy their own company.

The study also found that dog owners are more likely to have paid off their mortgage – and they will be inclined to describe their job as “stressful”.

In terms of earnings, the study found the average cat owner takes home £24,000 a year, while the typical dog lover can expect to pocket £27,000 a year.

Well, given the unconditional love that dogs have for their owners, they certainly do make their owners more happy, sociable and responsible. But when the study says that owning canines will help owners earn more seem to be a bit too far-fetched. Yes, since dogs make you more responsible towards them and the society at large (for example, you look after their needs and reciprocate their affection, and collect their poo while walking them on the road), perhaps that “responsibility” could pave the way for “working hard” in life, which, in turn, could lead to more wages. But how far it is universally correct is the question? These studies can do such research and come to such conclusions, but how far they are creditworthy is the question? Besides, the research need not be very convincing for cat lovers who may not take this study at face value.
