A fantastic Diwali On The Square event was witnessed by thousands of people, of all ages and backgrounds who came together to enjoy food, music, dance and an incredible light display on 9th October.

The celebration was a huge success with the Mayor of London – who is of the Islamic faith - delighted to be able to speak from the stage at a joyous festival celebrated by Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities here in the capital and worldwide. Sadiq was thrilled to welcome Londoners and visitors of all faiths and none to this early celebration of the Festival of Lights with those in attendance ensuring the occasion became a shining example of our city’s unity and strength in diversity.

“What a beautiful day in our capital. After so long it was wonderful to come together at Diwali on the Square with Londoners of all faiths and none. I wish all of London’s Sikh, Jain and Hindu communities the very best as they prepare to celebrate the Festival of Light,” the Mayor said.

The event was also attended by the newly appointed High Commissioner of India in London Mr Vikram Doraiswami. He shared photographs of the event and tweeted, “Terrific #Diwali festive spirit at #TrafalgarSquare today,  with #London Mayor Sadeq Khan and leaders of Hindu,  Jain,  Sikh faiths, all communities as d Amb of #Nepal and HC of #Uganda @HCI_London @MEAIndia @offlondonmayor.”
