Currently in his second year of university, Pritesh Kapadia was looking for something exciting to do over the summer with the intention of helping a charitable cause, so a trek up Mount Kilimanjaro seemed like a good idea. His aim is to complete the trek in 6 days, climbing 5896m above sea level to the summit. Inspired by the work they do, Pritesh is representing the Meningitis Research Foundation and wanted to support them by raising money and awareness of the charity. During a bucket collection in City of London, the 20 year old heard many stories of how their children or someone they knew suffered from Meningitis. This was truly heart-warming and it reaffirmed his decision to represent the Foundation.

Millions of people have already been affected by meningitis in the UK and around the world. It is a devastating disease that can kill and seriously disable within hours. Meningitis kills around 1,000 people around the world every day. Babies and children under five and young people are especially vulnerable but anyone of any age can be affected.

With a vision of a world free of meningitis, the Meningitis Research Foundation works tirelessly to fight against the disease. The Meningitis Research Foundation funds vital scientific research into the prevention, detection and treatment of the disease. Since 1989 the charity has awarded 147 research grants, investing over £18.7 million. The charity also provides support with 356 days a year helpline to answer any questions from vaccination to disability rights & benefits. Plus bereavement support and home visits for those affected. Until vaccines are available for all strains awareness of the symptoms is vital. The charity distributes literature to the general public, schools and hospitals.

The aim is to raise £3000 by end of June for the Meningitis Research Foundation and his trek up Kilimanjaro is later in September.
