No mother would want to hear the news of their child passing away. It is a loss which one does not know how to bear. Heidi Loughlin (32), from Portishead, had delayed her chemotherapy so that her unborn baby could have a better chance of survival; however, her baby died.
The 32-year-old Metropolitan police officer, had completed her first trimester of pregnancy when she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer.
A strong course of chemotherapy was recommended to her by doctors, but she chose to have a less effective treatment as she didn't want to harm her baby.
The treatment, however, did not work and she had no option but to have a caesarean section during her 28th week of pregnancy.
Heidi Loughlin, who is the mother of two young boys, game birth to a baby girl, Ally Louise Smith, who weighed only 2lb 5oz at birth. Ally sadly passed away 8 days later.
Loughlin expressed, “Giving birth at 28 weeks is scary but about 90 per cent survive. No mother dreams of having a baby at 28 weeks. But having a baby at 28 weeks is much better than not having a baby at all. It’s terrifying.”
