45-year-old Buddhist monk, Julian Glew, allegedly became upset after accidentally squashing a bug and went on a tyre-slashing rampage of 162 cars in Pocklington, East Riding of Yorkshire. The rampage caused damages of approximately £20,000. This incident took place in September 2015.

Glew, who has been living in a tent in a nearby wood for 20 years does not claim any benefits. It is alleged that he claimed that killing the bug was against his religion and that he needed to vent out his anger “without hurting people”.

It is said that many people did not report this crime as they believed that they had a flat tyre.

At Beverley magistrates court, he pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal damage and failing to surrender. He was sentenced to 11 weeks in jail.

District Judge Fred Rutherford said, “He said he was angry and wanted to take frustration out on society without hurting people. [He] says he did not want to hurt anyone but went out of his way to affect 162 people by causing them massive financial inconvenience. That is not the actions of a person who lives for peaceful co-existence."
