48-year-old British tourist from the UK was allegedly raped by a man in Goa, India on her way to a beach in the south-western state, according to an Indian police officer and was robbed off her 3 bags by an unidentified person who escaped from the spot after committing the brutal act.
The incident took place at around 4am in Canacona town some 100 km from Panaji, the capital city of Goa. The woman was walking towards the Palolem beach in South Goa district, said police inspector Rajendra Prabhudesai to PTI.
This morning, Police inspector Prashal Desai said the British woman had been travelling in Goa for the last three weeks and she had been regularly visiting the state for the last ten yearsBritish national had been regularly visiting Goa for the past 10 years as a tourist.
“The woman complained to the police that while she was walking from the Canacona railway station towards the beach, an unidentified person forcibly took her to a roadside where he raped her,” the police inspector said.
Earlier, the woman had moved to catch a train from Canacona to Thivim station located in North Goa district. As the train got delayed, the woman canceled her journey and decided to return to her place near the Palolem beach where she was staying, the police said.
“The accused, who saw the woman walking alone, pushed her to a paddy field on the roadside near a telecom company’s office. He first hit her in the eyes, due to which her vision blurred for a few minutes, and then raped her,” the police official said quoting the complaint.
The state police department has intensified its search to find the culprit.
