According to an investigation by The Times, Boots has been accused of exploiting a loophole in drug rules, enabling the high street chemist to “exploit cancer patients” by charging the NHS £3,200 for pain-relieving mouthwash that can cost £93.
Boots has reportedly benefitted from a loophole which lets the suppliers set their own prices for some unlicensed medicines called specials. Across the industry, high prices for specials cost the NHS about £30 million a year.
