Glowing tributes were paid to Dhirajben Pithia who has marked her 75th milestone. A lavish surprise party was thrown in her honour by her family last Sunday.
Held at The Langley in Watford, Hertfordshire, the round-table event brought together over 200 guests from all over the UK.
Goodwill messages from across the globe were also screened. A live band, led by Praful Ladwa and Anuradhaben, provided entertainment.
Proud mother-of-four, and grandma-of-ten, at the age of three, she, with her parents and two sisters sailed from her native Porbandar, Gujarat, to Mombasa.
At 16, she married Bhikhubhai Pithia in the Kenyan capital Nairobi. They moved to England in the late 60s. A role model in her own right, Dhirajben is humble, friendly, popular and continues to bring smiles to the faces of all those fortunate enough to know her.
Her nephew, our senior news editor Dhiren Katwa, in his keynote speech said that Dhirajben was someone living a happy and remarkable life which so many of us aspire.
