New statistics reveal that one in five people who seek asylum in the UK from Pakistan in the last two years have alleged it was due to their sexual orientation in their claim.
There have been 5,000 claims lodged from Pakistani nationals between July 2015 and March 2017, 1,000 of which cited sexual orientation as the reason or part of it.
It is said that Pakistani nationals had submitted the highest number of claims which referred to sexual orientation, which included being homosexual- 1/3 of the overall total. However, nearly ¾ of the claimants were rejected.
