Ant & Dec have been a prominent part of the British television industry and have made a remarkable name for themselves ever since their Byker Grove days. However the nation has been worried and saddened about Ant McPartlin's battle with alcohol and strong painkillers.
The 42-year-old television presenter, Ant was involved in a car crash in the afternoon of Sunday 18th March, which involved two other vehicles as well, and was arrested under suspicion of drink-driving.
Ant McParlin's car crashed head-on with restaurant owner Faheem Vanoo and his wife Shilpa Dandekar, who were travelling with their four-year-old daughter, Amaira.
Faheem Vanoo told The Sun newspaper, “His Mini came flying around a sharp corner on the wrong side of the road trying to overtake a blue car. I’m convinced that split-second turn of the wheel saved us all from being crippled or killed. I reckon he was doing 50 or 60mph.
"Fortunately I was only doing 20mph, we were all wearing seatbelts and my little girl was strapped into a child seat. But it was still a big impact. "I don’t care whether he’s a millionaire and I don’t care whether he’s a famous TV star — he could have put my daughter in a wheelchair."
Shilpa Dandekar suffered a bust lip while Amaira was taken to West Middlesex Hospital, in Isleworth by her parents for a check-up, but she was not kept overnight for any treatment. Faheem Vanoo, who runs the Pure Indian Cooking restaurant in Fulham told MailOnline, “The whole experience has just been a nightmare. It is not something that we ever expected, but we are just grateful that no one was hurt. It has been a terrible experience and it feels like we are coming out of a nightmare. It has left us all a bit shaken up.”
Ant McPartlin's spokesman said in a statement, “Ant has decided to go back into treatment and step down from his current TV commitments.”
