A street party is not something you would expect at a Hindu temple, but this is no ordinary temple! Celebrating the Coronation of His Majesty, King Charles III, Anoopam Mission provided a wonderful setting to bring the community together. Displaying the affection, loyalty and best wishes of the Asian community on such a historic occasion, Anoopam Mission volunteers, with the inspiration of their Guru, Param Pujya Sahebji, and under the direction of the Temple head, Pujya Himat Swamiji, went all out.

From cupcakes and sandwiches to vada pau and bhel-puri, free hot and cold food was served throughout the afternoon on Sunday 7 May 2023, and volunteers all pulled in to cook, bring in snacks, and wonderful treats for the children and the entire community. The community piled in and the festive atmosphere created the most wonderful afternoon, as people mingled and conversed and then participated in all the activities that were lined up. Young volunteers had set up cookie decorating stand for children, as well as a henna stand and a face-painting stand. Games were played throughout the afternoon, as volunteers set up musical chairs for children and coronation Bingo for adults amongst many others.

Respecting the norms of the mandir, an eggless cake Bake-off was one of the highlights of the afternoon. A panel of judges was chosen from the community and amongst the numerous entries, the bake-off was won by a young and talented 12 year old! A raffle draw was held, with prizes donated by the community and the celebrations concluded with garba, and finally the British national anthem.

The spiritual head of Anoopam Mission, Param Pujya Sahebji, has always commended the vision and work of His Majesty, King Charles over the years in his capacity as the Prince of Wales, and now the community’s abundant wishes are with him, as he embarks on his work as the Monarch of this nation.

The celebration captured the spirit of all that is good; the celebration of community, of diversity, and most definitely that of service. As Prince William remarked in his speech, My father's first words on entering Westminster Abbey yesterday were a pledge of service. It was a pledge to continue to serve," he said, going on to add: "My father has always understood that people of all faiths, all backgrounds, and all communities, deserve to be celebrated and supported."

The event that took place at Anoopam Mission, was a result of a lot of volunteers giving their time and energy to make something happen for the community and to give everyone that walked through in, the experience of a wonderful time. From setting up, cooking, cleaning, parking duties to organising games and managing the event, the volunteers most certainly exemplified the message of service through their actions.
