A man accused of murdering an elderly couple claims he is a victim of mistaken identity, a court has heard.
Forty-three-year-old Ali Qazimaj, a former Albanian asylum seeker with gambling debts, denies killing Peter Stuart, 75, and Sylvia Stuart, 69, from Weybread, Suffolk.
He also claims he is not the man wanted by police, and his real name is Vital Dapi, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
Qazimaj, of Tilbury, Essex, allegedly murdered Peter Stuart by stabbing him nine times last June, while the body of Sylvia Stuart has never been found. Police were certain she had also been killed.
The defendant was arrested in Luxembourg on June 17 before being extradited back to the UK.
The trial continues.
